Ravita’s Story: Life of Women in Rural Sindh

We are farmers and live in extremely poor conditions. Still, I, had a beautiful and happy life until my husband died last year due to kidney failure. He used to drink a lot, and he did not stop drinking even after the doctor’s warning. The doctors asked us to admit him in a good hospital, but we couldn’t afford to do so. After his death, we have no one who can work in fields or earn money by any other means. I have two brothers-in-law: one is disabled and another one has a mental disorder. I have five children: four daughters and one son. They all are still too young to work in fields. Therefore, I work along with my in-laws in fields for our survival.

I have lost interest in life after my husband’s death, and I feel like escaping from this place forever. However, being a mother, I can’t run away from responsibilities.

Hence, I am living and working for the sake of my children. I want to educate all of my children, particularly my daughters because I don’t want them to go through what I am going through now. I want them to have a comfortable and bright life ahead. There is a school near the village, but it is far away from the house. I don’t have any man in my house who can take my children to school and then bring them back safely.

Nonetheless, after listening to your session, I have decided to my children no matter how difficult it going to be for me
